Lean Six Sigma is the combination of the two most effective business improvement initiatives of the past two decades. Lean, pioneered by Toyota, seeks to minimise waste and optimise the speed of a process. Six Sigma, pioneered by Motorola, seeks to minimise defects and maximise process capability. The marriage of Lean and Six Sigma has combined the best of both into a powerful weapon against waste and variation, enabling significant process improvements across all industries.

This one day Yellow Belt course serves as an excellent introduction to the Lean Six Sigma structured approach to problem solving and its toolkit. Moreover it also includes hands-on practice in using the core Yellow Belt tools to prepare candidates to participate on project teams.

What's covered?

Expand/Collapse Expand/Collapse

The course is structured to give participants a fundamental understanding of the concepts and key tools of Lean Six Sigma using an individual issue or problem to get real experience of using the tools typically used in a Yellow Belt project.

The outcome of the training will be candidates with the requisite knowledge and confidence to participate on Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Projects. The course has little or no statistical content and will focus on identifying waste and other process issues through the use of Team based tools. These tools may be knowledge based or use data analysis to investigate current process performance.

Core Topics and Tools

  • Lean concepts – such as Valued Add and Non-Value Add and the 7 Process Wastes
  • Six Sigma concepts - such as the Process Transformation Equation Y=f(x), principles of variation and ‘critical to’ requirements
  • DMAIC methodology (Define Measure Analyse Improve Control)
  • Overview of Project Planning/charter elements
  • Process Mapping techniques (SIPOC and detailed process mapping)
  • Brainstorming and data collection planning
  • Cause Screening and Root Cause Analysis (5 Whys)
  • Basic data analysis – Pareto, Histogram, Time Series Analysis
  • Creative thinking (Anti-Solutions)
  • Prioritisation techniques (PICK Charts)
  • Standardisation and sustaining solutions
